Gray Stone Day School Athletic Director Jeff Morris was one of eight recipients of the 2020 Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Awards, announced last week by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

The NCHSAA presents one award in each of the eight regions to individuals with at least 10 years of experience in education and athletics who are still active “and has regularly gone ‘above and beyond’ the call of duty at both the local and the state level,” a press release said.

The award was named for Charlie Adams, a long-time NCHSAA executive director who retired in 2010, and is presented annually during the regional meetings of the NCHSAA.

Morris won the Region 6 award, having both coached and been an administrator for more than 25 years. He is the first and only athletic director for Gray Stone since it opened in 2002. Morris is a former president of the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association (NCADA) and a lifetime member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He has been a conference president for many years and recently finished four years on the NCHSAA’s Board of Directors, representing the NCADA as an affiliate member.

“Our kids and coaches have worked hard and represented themselves and the school well over the years,” Morris said. “To be recognized in this way is just humbling. Charlie Adams was a giant in high school athletics in North Carolina.”
