Animal Behavior Camp

This animal behavior camp will consist of 3 days of 3.5 hour classes on animal adaptations with an emphasis on animal behavior, and conclude with a Zoo Trip to Asheboro Zoo on Thursday, June 12th from 10am to 3pm. The classes will take place preceding the zoo trip from Monday-Wednesday June 9th-11th, and meet from 9am-12:30pm.

This class will focus on animal adaptations with an emphasis on animal behavior. We will spend time discussing the purposes adaptation serves, how it works, and how it influences how animals behave. Much of what we cover will directly connect the adaptation process to why animals have inherited different mannerisms that are tied to the survival of their species. We will also look at human behavior and how much of what we do and how we act is tied directly to adaptation strategies, as well as the history of our understanding of these topics. Aside from discussing biology and adaptation, we will also spend some of our time appreciating some of the most unique animals and their genetic adaptations.

Rube Goldberg Camp

Traveling Historian Camp

Let’s take some field trips and do some hands-on learning! Are you interested in history from the beginning of time to the present? Well come along and join the fun in this camp as we explore major events that happen throughout history in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade social studies curriculum. We will explore what it is like to be a historian through simulations, field trips, guest speakers, and more! We will cover ideas such as archaeology digs and finds, the Civil War, the Gold Rush, and the Early Americas. This four day camp will allow you to understand more about the life of a historian and give you experiences you will remember with friends for a lifetime!

Creative Writing Camp

Join me as we discover that we definitely have something to say! This creative writing camp is for students interested in various genres of writing. Based on the group's interest, we will dive into writing poetry, persuasive, descriptive, narrative and expository writing. Students will be able to experience not only the writing process but editing and publishing. Our goal is to have one piece ready to publish by the end of the week. Look out world - we have writers on the loose!

STEM Camp: Build-A-Bot
Rising Grades: 6th
Dates: July 7-11, 2025
Time: Morning Session (8:30-11:30); Afternoon Session (12:30-3:30) *both morning and afternoon sessions will be the same so please choose only one

In this hands-on camp, you will build your very own hydraulic robot! The best part of the camp is when finished, you can take it home! This camp will run from Monday-Friday. There will be a morning session (8:30-11:30) and an afternoon session (12:30-3:30). The morning and afternoon sessions will be the same, so make sure to only sign up for one. You won't want to miss this camp so sign up as soon as possible!
