Politics at
What Students have to say By Raegan Perry
What would students and teachers say if I gave them the choice of
the two prominent candidates for the Democratic Party and asked
their opinion? Well, here’s what some of them had to say about the
Democratic hopefuls: (there were some colorful answers)
Obama vs.
-Owen Schmeige
-Steven Smith
-Nathan Connell
-Megan Yost
-Mrs. Dassler
-
-Jarrett Burr
“
-Kaely Lykins
-Richard Scott
-Grady Bigger
-Megan Howard
-
-Josh Casper
-Mrs. Nance
“Obama, because he is a minority and I like his standpoints. I
frequently visit
his website and I support his ideas for energy.”
-Heather Van Wallendhel
“
-Jeffery Harrington
-Molly Peel
-Matt Slingerland
-Taylor Woods
“As a woman, I lean towards Hillary… and as a young, new voter, I
lean towards Obama. I’m split!”
-Keely Herron
“Obama, because he is actually capable. He has better ideas and I
don’t like Hillary’s healthcare plan.”
-Cally Womick
-Mr. Wilson
-Jenna Hall
-Nancy Pribble
The TARS (The Teenage Republicans) club plans to hold a voter
registration during homeroom on April 18th for students who
are or will be eligible to vote in November. They also invite others who
wish to register to vote (such as parents, teachers or Pfeiffer
students.) The TARS have been meeting regularly to discuss politics.
They have also volunteered to put up signs and raise funds to support
fellow Republicans. Jarrett Burr is the president of the TARS, and you
may recognize his last name because his brother, Justin Burr, is running
for a spot in the NC House.
The TARS, however, is not the only club interested in politics at Gray
Stone. The Young Progressives have been meeting frequently. The
Progressives were the ones responsible for adorning the walls with
orange posters that had information about each candidate (on the
Republican and Democratic side) running for President. They included the
key issues and that candidate’s stance on those issues. The Progressives
will meet today to discuss upcoming projects. Heather VanWallendael and
Cally Womick are the leaders of the Progressives.
Gray Stone students care about the issues in the world today and that is
evident in their concern for politics. Whether it’s talking to Mr.
Wilson about global warming or debating the need to protect endangered
species in Mr. Walter’s class, students are informed and conversant.
